EDP vs EDT vs Parfum explained, NOUVOR fragrance guide

EDP vs EDT vs Parfum: What Is the Difference?

EDP, EDT and Parfum are labels that describe a fragrance’s format and, in general, the relative concentration of aromatic materials. They can help you compare perfumes, but they do not guarantee an exact number of hours: formula quality, ingredients, weather, skin and application all affect performance.

Quick difference between EDP, EDT and Parfum

Type Typical character Best suited to
Eau de Toilette (EDT) Lighter, fresher and often more noticeable at the opening Daytime, office and warm weather
Eau de Parfum (EDP) Richer balance of freshness, depth and staying power Daily wear, evenings and versatile use
Parfum/Extrait Usually denser, smoother and longer lasting Special occasions and people who prefer richness

Concentration ranges are not legally identical across every brand. Treat the category as a useful guide, then judge the actual scent on skin.

What is Eau de Toilette?

EDT commonly emphasizes bright top notes such as citrus, herbs and aquatic accords. It may feel airy and easy to wear in Pakistan’s warmer months. A lighter profile can be an advantage in the office or during daytime activities where an intense scent may feel distracting.

What is Eau de Parfum?

EDP usually contains a stronger aromatic concentration than EDT, typically around 15 to 20%, and often gives heart and base notes more presence. It is popular because it can work for both everyday wear and events.

What is Parfum or Extrait de Parfum?

Parfum, also called pure perfume or extrait, is generally the most concentrated of the three, often 20 to 40%. It often needs fewer sprays and may project more intimately while staying noticeable for longer. More concentration does not automatically mean a louder fragrance; some parfums sit closer to the skin.

How strong are NOUVOR perfumes?

NOUVOR bottles are labelled EDP, but every 50ml bottle is made in our own lab with about 40% fragrance concentration (perfume oil plus aroma compounds). That puts them at extrait level strength, well above a typical EDP. In our in-house testing they last 8 to 12 hours depending on the scent, skin and weather. Because the concentration is high, 2 to 3 sprays are usually enough.

Does higher concentration always last longer?

Not always. Citrus materials can evaporate faster than woods, musk, vanilla, tobacco and resins even when the label shows the same category. Humidity, heat, dry skin and the structure of the formula matter as much as the letters on the bottle. Read more in the truth about perfume longevity and our perfume notes guide.

Which concentration works best in Pakistan?

  • Hot days: fresh EDT or a controlled application of a fresh, high concentration scent. See our best summer perfume picks.
  • Office: a clean fragrance applied lightly. See best office perfume.
  • Winter and weddings: richer profiles with oud, woods, tobacco, amber or vanilla. See best winter perfume.
  • Long days: carry a travel spray instead of over-applying in the morning.

Frequently asked questions

Is EDP better than EDT?

Neither is universally better. EDT may be preferable for light daytime wear, while EDP often suits buyers wanting a richer, more versatile profile.

Is Parfum stronger than EDP?

Parfum is generally more concentrated, but perceived projection and longevity still depend on the formula and wearer.

What concentration are NOUVOR perfumes?

About 40% fragrance concentration (perfume oil plus aroma compounds) in every 50ml bottle, which is extrait level strength.

How many sprays should I use?

Start with two to three sprays and adjust for the fragrance, setting and weather. Enclosed spaces usually require a lighter application.
